Kindergarten & Early Years Education

The world is changing rapidly, and the model of education continues to lag behind.

We have long moved past industrial economies, and therefore we no longer require many of the institutional aspects that came from this era. We must do away with the conventional structure of desk and classroom learning that gives way to quiet children who lack ingenuity and inquisitive minds. Rather, our world needs children who:

  • Notice the world around them with wonder and awe

  • Are curious and continually ask “why” and “how”

  • Have the confidence and self-security to tackle problems

  • Have the intrinsic desire to seek solutions and are therefore willing to engage in trial and error and persevere

  • Are willing to ask others for help and ideas, while enthusiastically and openly sharing their own discoveries

It is from these traits in which our discovery based Kindergarten Program has been developed.

The philosophy at the core of our Kindergarten Program is the belief that children are happiest, healthiest, and most open to learning opportunities when they emergent, experiential and inquiry-based. Through a combination of exploration, play, and teacher-directed learning we foster, nurture, and encourage a set of values, skills, and traits that are much needed in our children, and yet are often neglected within the traditional school system. This unique learning model not only forges curious and inquisitive minds, but also promotes creativity, adaptability, problem solving, and risk-taking within our children.

Kindergarten at Creekford Academy develops the whole child and allows children to:

  • Hone their observational skills

  • Think creatively

  • Think critically about the world and environment around them

  • Build foundational skills in numeracy, literacy and STEAM

  • Develop problem-solving strategies

  • Develop critical communication skills

  • Gain compassion for nature, wildlife, and each other

  • Develop and improve their mobility and coordination

  • Increase their physical and mental stamina

The original kindergarten – the children’s garden – conceived by German educator Freidrich Froebel in the 19th century, was a place where children learned through play, often in nature. That idea is fast eroding. Children aren’t playing in the garden anymore; instead they are filling in bubbles on worksheets
